AARP Auto Insurance Review

Written by Michael Browne

AARP Auto Insurance ReviewCompany Overview:  AARP Auto Insurance is really a special product line from the Hartford Insurance Group geared toward the members of the American Association of Retired Persons. It provides discounted insurance products that are tailored specifically to mature consumers.

Auto Insurance Products: The Hartford is a full service insurer, and it's co-branded AARP auto product is specific to passenger vehicles. Motorcycle coverage is not offered, but there are options for antique and collectible cars.  Other business units will cover RVs and boats.  This insurance is available only to AARP members.

Customer Service:  All customer service for the AARP auto insurance program goes through the Hartford's lines. The website does not make numbers obvious to non-members.

Consumer Satisfaction:  AARP is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, but it has received a rating of B - generally stable, generally reliable. Reviewers from Viewpoints.com rated it with 3.87 of 5 stars, and 76% of them would recommend it to others.

Connectivity:  The website (aarp.thehartford.com) is essentially a portal to the Hartford. General information is plentiful, but unless you're a member there are few specifics. Direct phone numbers are locked down.
Is there an app for that? The AARP mobile apps that are available provide general member savings…nothing specific to auto insurance.
