Amica Insurance Review

Amica InsuranceCompany Overview: In 1907, in Providence, RI, the Automobile Mututal Insurance Company of America, aka AMICA, first opened its doors. Today, it's the oldest established mutual automobile insurance company in the country, and it's product line includes personal liability, homeowners, and marine coverage, as well as life insurance and retirement services.  As of December, 2010, it had an A++ rating from A.M. Best Company, assets of $4.1 billion dollars, and 1.33 million active policies.

J.D. Power and Associates 2011 National Auto Insurance Satisfaction StudySM, Amica ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among National Auto Insurers, 12 Years in a Row."*

Auto Insurance Products: AMICA's auto insurance lines are fairly basic. It offers general automobile insurance with a premium line known as "platinum choice" for customers with excellent credit and driving records to match.

Customer Service: AMICA has an array of telephone numbers divided by insurance division, which can be found at its website. It also offers email communication and provides an address for postal mail. AMICA is known for excellent customer service, and was ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among National Auto Insurers, 12 Years in A Row" in the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 National Auto Insurance Satisfaction Study.

Consumer Satisfaction:  Customer Satisfaction seems to be mixed when it comes to reviews. It's true that the company was noted by J.D. Power (see "Customer Service" section), but it's only got a B rating from the Better Business Bureau, though unlike many national insurance companies it is an accredited company. Reviews at Viewpoints.com are mixed. It has a rating of 3.59 of 5 stars with 63% of reviewers willing to recommend it, but the consensus seems to be that AMICA cherry picks only the best customers, and that their customer service excellence is offset by rates that seem to increase too much and too often.

Connectivity: AMICAs website looks old-fashioned at first glance but it actually offers everything you'd expect from a leading insurance company. Prospective clients can request a quote, and customer service options include account management, billing, and claims filing. There's also a section of the site devoted solely to claims management.

Is there an app for that? AMICA Mobile allows users to file claims, check status, and get quotes.
