Alfa Insurance Co has announced a change to their business practices in Alabama, which comes on the heels of last month’s rate increase for homeowners insurance. The change? The insurer, which is currently the second-largest property insurer in the state, is now requiring homeowners to bundle their auto insurance or find a different provider for their homeowners policies.
It’s often advised that bundling of this sort is a good way to reduce what you pay for auto insurance, but being forced to bundle in order to retain an existing policy seems extreme.
Alfa’s spokesperson, Jeff Helms, explained to the press that the change is meant to streamline the insurance company’s book of business and make better customer service possible. He added that the company’s personal approach, “…works best when we can reach all of a person’s insurance needs.”
